Overview:
SmartDepo Law is a legal AI platform acquired by Rev that specializes in deposition summaries for legal professionals. In 2025, I led the redesign of the SmartDepo Law marketing website in collaboration with Rev's brand team and SmartDepo founders — modernizing the experience while preserving SmartDepo Law's distinct identity within Rev's growing portfolio of legal products.
The core challenge was balancing two competing needs: keeping SmartDepo Law recognizable to its existing user base while bringing it visually and strategically in line with Rev's evolving brand direction.
The Challenge:
The existing site had three problems that the redesign needed to solve.
First, the site lacked product visuals. Users arriving at the site had no clear sense of what a deposition summary actually looked like or what they were getting — creating doubt at exactly the moment they needed confidence to convert.
Second, the bulk order process was unnecessarily complex. Users who needed to submit 10+ deposition summaries had to request a Word document and complete a multi-step manual process. That friction was a direct barrier to conversion for SmartDepo Law's highest-value users.
Third, the brand felt disconnected from where Rev was heading. With Rev deepening its focus on legal and investigative users, SmartDepo Law needed to feel like a cohesive part of that story — modern, credible, and built for legal professionals — without losing its own identity.
The original site illustrates all three challenges clearly. You can see it here: smartdepo.law. The absence of product visuals, the dated design, and the friction in the user journey are immediately apparent — and informed every decision we made in the redesign.
The Approach:
Brand Modernization Within a Portfolio
The redesign gave SmartDepo Law a cleaner, more modern visual identity while keeping its existing branding intact. The challenge here wasn't starting from scratch — it was elevating what existed to feel consistent with Rev's standards without erasing what made SmartDepo Law recognizable to its users. I refined the visual language, typography, and layout to strike that balance, while partnering with Rev's brand team on the content messaging and positioning that would better highlight what SmartDepo has to offer.
Making the Product Visible
One of the most impactful changes was introducing product visuals throughout the site. Legal professionals evaluating a deposition summary tool want to know exactly what they're getting before they commit. By showing the actual output — what a summary looks like, how it's structured, what information it surfaces — we reduced uncertainty and gave users the confidence to take the next step.
Reducing Friction for Bulk Orders
The multi-step Word document process for bulk orders was replaced with a streamlined experience that made submitting multiple deposition summaries faster and easier. Reducing that friction was a direct conversion play for SmartDepo Law's highest-value users — legal teams processing high volumes of depositions.
Messaging for Legal Professionals
In collaboration with Rev's brand team, we refined the site's messaging to speak more directly and credibly to legal professionals. The goal was to communicate SmartDepo Law's value proposition clearly and quickly — what it is, what it does, and why it's the right tool for their workflow.
The Result:
A modernized marketing website that brought SmartDepo Law in line with Rev's legal brand direction while preserving its distinct identity. Cleaner visuals, product-forward design, and a more streamlined bulk order experience combined to create a more credible and conversion-friendly experience for legal professionals.
